Sunday July 6, 2014

Hello again! This was a very busy week for the program. Students had their first evaluations of the program. Everyone is doing very well and the instructors are very pleased with the progress all of the students have made thus far.

Tuesday, we visited the Tour Tanguy as a group. This historic site was a residence which was turned into a museum. There are several exhibits about the history of the city of Brest and the history of the tower itself.

On Thursday, the students learned many traditional Breton dances. Many families participated in the dancing as well. There will be many more photos and videos of this event to come in the future. I will be sure to update this post during the week as we collect video footage and other photos from the host parents, as they have also begun following this blog and wanting to contribute to it.

On Friday, students participated in a ceremony honoring the relationship between Brest and the United States. This ceremony commemorated the Fourth of July with a presentation of flowers at the American Monument in Brest. Cierra Natt represented the IU Honors Program by presenting flowers at the monument on behalf of the program. The students sang La Marseillaise and the Star-Spangled Banner at the ceremony.

Unfortunately, the weather was not very good during the ceremony and it rained for the rest of the evening. Student and their host families were invited to a reception at L’Aile afterwards. Students watched the soccer match between France and Germany and enjoyed some food with their host families.

Stay tuned for more photos and videos next week!
